International Review of Psychiatry: International Perspectives of Social Skills Training Social skills training as a modality for the treatment and rehabilitation of persons with mental disabilities has been well documented for its efficacy in controlled, clinical trials carried out in the USA during the past two decades. Skills training has been endorsed by the American Psychiatric Association and consensus groups of experts as an evidence-based, "best practice" for schizophrenia and related disorders. In this special issue of the International Review of Psychiatry, 15 articles are published that show the cross-cultural value, utility and effectiveness of social skills training. Reports on the adaption and impact of social skills training with the mentally disabled come from psychiatrists and psychologists in Quebec, France, Switzerland, Germany, Peru, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Bulgaria, Poland and Japan.
