Independent Grooming for Persons with Mental Disabilities

Designed and validated during a five-year period at a large state hospital, the methods in this manual have been found to significantly improve the personal hygiene and grooming skills of patients with chronic schizophrenia, affective and organic mental disorders. The manual describes the development and evaluation of the program. Step-by-step procedures used to train staff and to carry out the program with their patients are specified. Assessment forms for monitoring patients' progress are also included.
